An elderly California woman has been accused of fatally shooting her 84-year-old boyfriend.
Police were called to a Simi Valley home Sunday afternoon, where a woman had called them about an unresponsive man inside the residence.
The woman who’d called 911 showed police to a bedroom in the home, where they say they found the body of 84-year-old Salvatore Orefice.
Orefice was reportedly non-responsive, was partially covered and had suffered a gunshot wound.
According to a police news release, 75-year-old Mary Karacas showed up to the home while the 911 caller was being questioned.
Police said Karacas admitted in a subsequent interview that she shot Orefice, ” with whom she had a long standing relationship,” during an altercation.
Police have not identified any additional motive.
Karacas was later booked at the Ventura County Main Jail on suspicion of murder.
Attempts to reach Karacas at a number that matches her name and location were unsuccessful and a message was not immediately returned.
