A Kentucky judge was captured on video last week chiding jail officials after a female defendant arrived in a courtroom for a hearing without pants.
A widely shared video shows District Court Judge Amber Wolf flabbergasted after the woman’s lawyer told her the inmate had been denied clothing and feminine hygiene products while behind bars for about two or three days, People reports.
“Excuse me? This is outrageous. Is this for real?” Wolf said. “Am I in the Twilight Zone? What is happening?”
Wolf then called corrections officials on the phone to demand answers.
Metro Corrections Deputy Director Dwayne Clark later brought the woman clothing, video shows. “This is not normal,” Wolf said. “I’ve never seen it happen … This is completely inhumane and unacceptable. I’m sorry you had to go through this.”
Corrections officials told KDRB that the woman was wearing shorts that weren’t visible under her long shirt, but that she should have been given different clothing.
The woman was arrested for not completing a diversion program following a 2014 shoplifting charge, according to KDRB. Wolf released her from jail with a $100 fine instead of more jail time.
